President and Founder
Dan Koken is the President and Founder of Denver Test Prep. Originally from Colorado, Dan graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a starting player on the university rugby team and led a variety of youth oriented service projects with an educational focus. Upon graduation, Dan spent a year serving as a Coro Fellow in California and later was awarded an academic scholarship to attend the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Switzerland, where he obtained a Master of Arts in Development Economics. After teaching at a university in Ecuador and working as a microfinance practitioner in Paraguay, Dan moved to New York to serve as the Director of NYC Business Solutions for the city of New York as part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration. In this role, Dan helped to lead the city’s effort to provide support services to small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Given his background in education, small business experience, and success on standardized tests, Dan founded NYC Test Prep in 2008. Dan moved back to Denver in 2012 to focus on building Denver Test Prep into the premier tutoring service in Colorado. In addition to managing the business and our non-profit partnerships, Dan maintains an active student roster and specializes in teaching the ACT, SAT, ISEE, SSAT, and LSAT.
Adam Silver is the Vice President of Denver Test Prep. Adam joins Denver Test Prep after more than five years at College Track, a nonprofit focused on college completion for students from underserved communities. During his time at College Track, Adam served on the national leadership team, developed and ran academic programs, and coached students to improve their academics and pursue their dreams. Originally from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, Adam graduated with honors from Indiana University. After graduating from IU, Adam moved to Phoenix as a Teach for America corps member and spent three years as a math teacher. While teaching and coaching basketball and softball, Adam earned his Master’s degree in Secondary Education from Arizona State University.
As Vice President of Denver Test Prep, Adam’s role includes new client orientation, overseeing day-to-day operations, and leading our nonprofit programs. Adam also maintains an active student roster and specializes in the ACT, SAT, ISEE, and academic coaching.
Director of Curriculum Design and Instruction
Tara Meister is the Director of Curriculum Design and Instruction for Denver Test Prep. From Colorado, Tara graduated with honors from Colgate University where she played on the basketball team. Upon graduation, she returned to Colorado to earn her teaching license and Master’s degree through the Boettcher Teachers’ Program, then partnered with the University of Denver. As a secondary English teacher, Tara focused on equitable teaching instruction and coached high school basketball, track, and cross country. Currently, Tara is in the final year of her PhD program in the Education Department at the University of Denver. As a PhD student, Tara worked on research projects related to understanding mathematical learning in early childhood. Though centered on preschool-aged children, understanding mathematical concept development supports her work with clients.
Tara has worked for Denver Test Prep as a test prep specialist for over 3 years. During her time with Denver Test Prep, Tara has helped hundreds of students to improve their standardized test scores, specializing in the ACT, SAT, GRE, SSAT, ISEE, and HSPT, and has completed nearly 3,000 hours of instruction. She develops materials and curricula for tutoring programs as well as for tutor development.
