DMNS Teen Science SAT/PSAT Tutoring Program


Location: Denver Test Prep (5347 S Valentia Way, Suite 330, Greenwood Village, CO 80111)
Meeting dates: 8/27, 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1
Meeting time: 11am-1pm

The course will be offered at no cost to participating students. 

Students will be sent an agreement that must be signed before the start of the program. The agreement confirms each student’s commitment to attending all tutoring sessions, completing all homework, registering for the required official exams, and sending scores to Denver Test Prep for official exams after scores are received. Information on student participation will be shared with DMNS staff.

Class Description

Offered by Denver Test Prep (, the SAT/PSAT Small Group Tutoring Program will equip students with key strategies and content knowledge necessary to excel on the SAT and PSAT. Students will receive detailed instruction on frequently tested math, writing, and critical reading concepts, along with strategies for managing their time, analyzing questions, eliminating wrong answer choices, and other techniques for achieving higher scores on standardized tests. The course is recommended for juniors and seniors preparing for October test dates. 

Enrollment Instructions

To enroll, please send an email with your contact information and the subject line of “DMNS Teen Science SAT Program” to . You will then be contacted to confirm your enrollment. We expect to limit the 11am-1pm class to the first 8 students that enroll, and all students must register by July 31, 2017. If the first session is oversubscribed, a second class will be offered on Sundays.

Course Requirements

Each student will be expected to complete the following:

    • 2 full-length practice exams
      • Diagnostic exam (completed before the start of the program)
      • Final practice test at end of program (completed before the final class)
      • Both exams will be completed outside of class time using official time limits
    • 1 official exam
      • October 7th SAT for seniors
      • October 11th PSAT for juniors
        • Any juniors not taking the 10/11 PSAT should take the 10/7 SAT
    • Weekly homework assigned by the instructor

Bio for Course Instructor: Tara Meister

Tara Meister is a graduate of Colgate University, where she excelled as a student-athlete both on the basketball court and in the classroom. A Boettcher Teaching Fellow and former high school teacher and basketball, track, and cross country coach, Tara is currently in the final year of her PhD program in the Education Department at the University of Denver. Tara has worked for Denver Test Prep as a test prep specialist for over 3 years. During her time with Denver Test Prep, Tara has helped hundreds of students improve their standardized test scores and has completed nearly 3,000 hours of instruction.
